Our Mission

A Center for non-degree Jewish learning, emphasizing:

  • Torah L’Shma – Study for its own sake
  • Jewish Cultural Events: Theater, film, concerts and comedy
  • Professional Development

Gratz College is the only non-denominational center of higher Jewish education and culture in the greater Philadelphia Jewish community. The Samuel Netzky Division of Continuing Education is an academic resource for all Jews who do not want to enroll in a degree program but enjoy learning in an intellectual atmosphere with instructors and speakers who are highly regarded experts in their fields.

The goal of the Samuel Netzky Division of Continuing Education is to provide quality continuous and single-event programs that enable members of the Jewish community to expand their knowledge in a variety of Judaic subject areas. Ongoing courses of study are offered each semester in Hebrew and Yiddish language and general Jewish studies, through the Florence Melton Adult Mini-School.

In addition, many single event programs are offered all year round in the evening and on weekends including: Distinguished Scholar Lectures; community lecture series at Martins Run and the Abramson Center; Yiddish films, theater programs and concerts; and museum day trips.

Professional Development

For busy professionals who find it hard to find time to attend a lecture or program in Jewish studies, Netzky offers accredited courses which provide relevant Jewish content in the context of professional education. Gratz has earned high praise for its Continuing Legal Education courses where attorneys receive required yearly credits for participating in classes comparing Jewish law to American law on everything from Family Law to End of Life Issues. Nationally famous speakers such as Nathan Lewin and Paul Wolpe have shared their expertise with Gratz audiences.
